The Belmont Stakes 2014

Sports Investors,

Well its that time of year and for me, a huge fan of horse racing, there is nothing quite like Belmont day when there is a chance that we could have a triple crown winner!

Can California Chrome get the job done?  Sure he can and he is a worthy champion.  However, from a betting perspective he is a massive underlay and I'd never bet him.

The Horse Racing enthusiast in me wants him to win for the sport but the professional investor in me doesnt think he will win so let me break it down for you......

1. One of the things that will often predict Belmont success for horses who come out of the Derby and Preakness is the last 1/8th of a mile in those races.  In both the Derby and Preakness, Chrome lost ground in the last 8th while winning.  The Belmont is another quarter mile further than the Derby!

2.  In probably the last 6 or 7 Belmont stakes, the horse that won was the FRESH horse.  Horses that run the Derby, skip the Preakness, and run the Belmont often do very well.

3. History shows that the 2nd place horse in the Derby will often come back and win the Belmont

4. Jockey error. Espinoza is a great jock no doubt about it but he "pushed the button" WAY too early on California Chrome in the preakness.  Many Jocks under estimate the length of the Belmont stretch.  When you come out of the far turn and head toward the stretch you still have 5 furlongs to run.  In every race when Espinoza pressed the 'button" , Chrome responded big and then flattened a bit in the last 8th.  If he moves early, Chrome will 100% get run down today unless the pace is just so turtle slow.

5. Wild Cards.  This is a sneaky deep Belmont field and deeper than most think.  With Social Inclusion scratching it looks like there is no speed so how would Chrome react if he found himself on the lead?  That is a very real possibility.  Or how will he react if Tonalist goes out and tears it up on the front end.

So, the question is always who's going to win.  The fan in me wants Chrome to win it but I don't think so.
I was in vegas for 5 straight possible triple crown winners.  I watched smarty jones lose because the jock "pressed the button" WAY too early, I watched Big Brown get injured, I saw war emblem get caught up in the gate and never have a chance......so who will win?

#4 Commanding Curve - My top choice as the derby runner up no one ever remembers but they often come back and score at the Belmont.  His last 1/4 at the Derby was damn near epic considering that unreal speed bias that day.  He made up 6 lengths on California Chrome in the last 1/8th mile and has a real shot today to gun him down if the pace sets up as fair.  He's fresh and his works were phenomenal.

#9 Wicked Strong - I won't bet him because he won't pay enough but he has a very real shot and his workouts at Belmont are actually faster than race times.  Ran a mile workout "breezing" in 139 and change...that's damn good.

#10 General ARod - I know I've been banging the drum for him at both the derby and preakness but his big problem in both was JOCKEY ERROR.  Today he gets Rosie and if there is one thing she does VERY WELL is position her horses to win.  He will be a player here.

NHL Season Is Up And Running....

Sports Investors,

Today, I have a surprise for you.  That's right, call your neighbors, tell your friends as Ole' uncle Tod has got some potentially good news for those of you who follow the blog.

If you look back at the post history, In the past I used the blog to test my methods that were intended for my paying clients but they needed some battle testing.  I like doing my battle tests here on the blog.   Probably 3 years back we made over 100 Units of profit in NHL right here on the blog.  One summer we made over 100 Units of profit as I tested my MLB value system.

Over the past 6 months I've developed what I believe to be 2 outstanding new additions to the PSIC program.  The first has proven over a 5 year span to hit 65-70% in NFL.  I started giving those plays to my clients this past weekend and the numbers held as we were 4-1 on those plays.  The other program I've developed is an UNDERDOG methodology for NHL.  Everything looks great on paper but it needs to be battle tested and that's where you guys all, hopefully, get to benefit.

I'm going to post my plays for the new NHL UNDERDOG program for free this season right here on the blog.  I will also include money management as well and I hope it goes as well for all of you as it appears to in testing.

FAQ #1....Will you be posting the NFL picks on the blog.  Um, that is a BIG NO.  That you're going to have to pay for but hopefully this blog will give some of you an opportunity to see what we're all about.

So without further ado lets get started......

PSIC NHL UNDERDOG PROGRAM TESTING - Bankroll ($1,000)

10/2/2013 - Risk 1% ($10) on:

Toronto Maple Leafs +115
Anahiem Mighty Ducks +105

So, you wanna be a sports investor part 3

Sports Investors,

So, 2 weeks have come and gone in the NFL. We have talked about money management and how to handle losing as being integral parts of long term success as a sports investor.  It's very very true that if you can't get a handle on those two things, what I'm telling you here isn't going to matter much.

Keep in mind that the house has that 10% edge.  Some online books offer 5% juice and other reduce juice options but don't think for a minute that they'd offer those things if they weren't absolutely convinced that you're going to lose.

So now that  you know what it takes, how on earth are you going to pick enough winners to survive?
Isn't that the question of the ages.  You have a few options.

1. Hire someone very reliable, like PSIC (shameless plug) to help you not only with the plays but the money management as well.

2. Check out the forums for the latest systems that everyone seems to follow

3. Pick games yourself.

Do you know the definition of INSANITY?  It's doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results.  That's what many of you are guilty of.  Of the 3 options above, if you're not going to use myself or someone very reputable, you're better off with plan #3 so let's talk about that.

There is nothing wrong with the forums and there are actually some very bright people in there with good ideas.  Here is the reality though.  The sportsbooks have people on staff that comb the forums to see if anyone has ideas that are potentially going to impact their bottom line.  99% of everything in there is of no fear to them and especially chases

Last week I received a few emails from people who lost a 5 game MLB chase.  Seriously guys, WTF are you thinking doing a 5 game chase?  Do you think I do this for my health?  I'm trying to help everyone at least make better decisions.

So you're going to pick your own games.  Where do you start?  I'm not going to give you all my trade secrets but let's take NFL football for example.  Do you REALLY want my advise on how you should pick games?  Find the play that makes you most uncomfortable.  The one where you say "There is NO WAY that team even has a chance (with the exception being Jacksonville, they may be an automatic fade).  Aside from Jacksonville, look at the team you think has ZERO chance of covering and then play that team.   Some of you will laugh but think about it.  Has vegas been built on winners or losers.

Let me give you an example.

NFL week 1.  What was the team that NO ONE thought had a chance?  NY Jets?  Buffalo?  How did those two do?  They both covered and Buffalo nearly won outright as a 12 point dog.

NFL week 2.  Who were the NO WAY teams...Jacksonville?  Tampa Bay?  As it turns out, Jacksonville is probably that bad and Tampa Covered against a good New Orleans team.  So if you were 3-1 over those two weeks, you'd probably be able to live with that?

I'm not saying just go blindly fade the public or just play the worst teams in the league either but rather my point is that the sportsbooks and vegas are COUNTING on you following the crowd.  As soon as you say NO WAY can that team cover, that's exactly who  you should probably play.  And even as bad as Jacksonville looks, they'll cover their fair share of games as well.

If you think like everyone else, you'll get the same results as everyone else.  Beating professional sports is TOUGH.  The lines are razor sharp.  The only edge you have is to find value where others see none.   True story, when I was in the business...I knew a guy who for 4 years all he did was comb the newspapers for every "prognosticators" picks .  All he did was when all the experts agreed that one side would cover, he played the other teams.  I'll tell you this, he never had a season where he hit less than 58-60% of his bets and in many years he'd maybe have 2-3 losing weeks.

So why is that?  Why can everyone get "trapped" like that on certain teams.  I'll tell you this, back in the day before DonBest created all the lines for people,  while this weeks games were being played on Sunday, the real SHARP players were invited by some of the books to have a crack at THE NEXT WEEKS lines.  So then when the lines came out, they were adjusted to "TRAP" the public on games where they already had big SHARP money.   That's not so much the case anymore but I still think that even the big line makers consult some of the sharp players and make lines that will account for both sharp money and square money.

In NCAA Football, I used to have a stone cold way to beat it.  It was my best sport before DonBest became the dominant line provider.   NCAA is much much different than NFL.  In NCAA Football, sometimes there are just mismatches that the books can't put a high enough price on.  The public does much better in NCAA.  There are also a lot more games so it's hard to hang a good number on every game so even the sharp players will do better in NCAA so it can be a challenge for the books.

However, if we're talking about winning in NCAA, my only advise to you for now  is to know the matchups because that can be the key.  Also, try to avoid laying big numbers   -17 or more because there is a lot more back door crap in NCAA football.  I could right a whole blog on ways to look at college sports.

Let's just start our journey to picking winners but understanding that to WIN, which not many people do, you have to think differently.  If you do everything like everyone else, you'll get the same results that they get and in the end, that's usually not the result you'll want.

Good Luck until next time,

Tod Wilkinson

Platinum Sports Investing Blog Comp Play 9/6

Sports Investors,

Last time we met, the Blue Jays got it done for us on the first 5 innings.

As for the kickoff of the NFL season, that game went exactly as I thought it would. I knew that the amount of plays Denver was going to be able to run was going to eventually wear Baltimore down and that's exactly what happened.  Not to mention, Peyton Manning had a night for the ages.

On a final note, many of you have expressed interest in locking in your spot on our all sports for one price annual program. You have one more day to get that done.  Keep in mind for those of you who are current members on the annual plan this does not affect you.  Once you are locked in on this annual plan you always have the option to keep it the changes in program only affect future subscribers.

Here is today's comp play:

Sports Investors,

A nice free play winner yesterday.   As much as I'd like to give you something in NCAA football, there isn't a game even close to qualifying for a play.

We'll go back to the diamond for the free play on Saturday.

PLATINUM SPORTS INVESTING COMP PLAY 8/30/13 (+4.9%)

Bet to RISK 1% on: SAN DIEGO +145 ....  I don't often make habit of betting against the best teams but in this case we have an opportunity.   Capuano is clearly the Dodgers worst starter and Cashner is good overall and been solid in his last 3.  It represents an acceptable risk

Platinum Sports Investing Blog - Thursday

Welcome back as we steam roll towards the weekend with
3 NHL Plays today....

NHL 2009 - 2010 ( +9.1 Units)

Line 1: X-15-15-X-X
Line 2: 15-15-15-15-40-45

On the game 1 line risk 81 to win 30 on San Jose +1.5 -270
On the game 1 line risk 81 to win 30 on St. Louis +1.5 -270
On the game 1 line bet to win 30 on LA Kings +1.5 ( Line not out yet)

**Optional Plan B**  For those of you who do not like the
heavy lays what you could do is put out a 1 unit  parlay on all
3 teams.  If you look at the possible options it may not be a bad
way to go.  If we lose 1 or 2 of the games and you miss your
parlay, the 30 you'd lose is not much more than you'll lose
straight up...especially if we lost 2 or 3 games you'd be saving
big bucks.  If we hit the parlay it will pay not quite 2-1 so we
collect less on a sweep but you also have approximately 200
less at risk.   Those of you on short bankrolls may want to consider
this option.

Platinum Sports Investing Blog - Wednesday

Ok a nice easy winner last night with the Avalanche...just the
way we like it.

Today we have no plays on this blog as I have tested out this
system and the optimal way to play with the labourchere is to
play games 1 and 2.  Since we aren't chasing there is no need
for us to bother with game 3 Minnesota so today there are no
plays.

I do want to take a moment to answer some of the questions
that have come in and how I would handle certain situations.
First, my unit calculations were off.  Going into yesterday we
should have been at 6.1 instead of 7.25.  I wasn't actually
doing the math but I was going by the balance in my NHL account
so somehow I'm a unit ahead but after yesterdays win 9.1 is the
accurate figure.

Second, I've received a few emails and comments on what to do
if you have lines like this

X-X-10-X-X
X-10-10-10-20

You have a few options here.  Often WHAT I DO is when I
have one number remaining on my line I just "clear" the line and
start it fresh.   OR what you could do is "borrow" 10 from your
line 2 and make your lines like this:

X-X-10-10-X
X-10-10-10-10

Either way will work.  Don't stress out about lines...the Labourchere
is a money managment TOOL to help you get from A to B.

Have a good day off even though I know some of you will probably
still be playing game 3 with Minnesota.   Anyone who's chasing
double good luck and I hope you stop chasing because if you look
back at each season there are approx 7 losses each year which would
make it impossible to be profitable by chasing but I know some
of you will have to learn the hard way so good luck to you.

NHL 2009 - 2010 ( +9.1 Units)

Platinum Sports Investing Blog - Tuesday

Hello boys and girls we are back with some NHL action
today.

First I want to take a moment to explain the unit calculation.
If  you were doing a martingale or a chase plan on this NHL and
20 was your base starting point like ours was on this blog, you would
probably not have a chance to raise that much during the year
because you always have to fear the "GAME 3".  One of the
greatest features of the Labourchere that is often overlooked is
the fact that we CAN raise our bets without that fear.

So when comparing apples to apples....when we raise our wager
from 20 to 30, it's not fair to the labourchere to have to raise your
base unit of evaluation.   If you go through the whole season and
stay at 20 base unit and make 50 units....you'd make $1000 for the
season.  Well with our Labourchere...if you start the season at
a $20 wager and end the season at a $60 wager if you make the
same 50 units...we will make more than DOUBLE the person
who just stayed at $20.   So when I calculate units it's all based
on our $20 starting unit.  The fact that we can safely raise our
bet shouldn't be a penalty to us but a bonus.  So right now at a
base bet of $30 our wins and losses are = to 1.5 units.   By keeping
our units in this manner you will get a TRUE feel at the end of the
season why the Labourchere will kick the shit out of anyone who
thinks they are going to do this NHL progam and chase.  There will
be losses...(about 8 every year) and the 3 game chasers will be busted where
we will continue to work on games 1 and 2 and make 70-80 or more
units laughing all the way to the bank!

NHL 2009 - 2010 ( +7.25 Units)

Line 1: X-15-15-15-45
Line 2: 15-15-15-15-40-45

On the game 1 line risk 150 to win 60 on Colorado +1.5 -250

Platinum Sports Investing Blog - Saturday

Good Saturday to all of you.  We're back with NHL today
but first lets talk about a few NCAA Football Opportunities...

Indiana / Virginia OVER 47....Indiana scores.  They were even the only
team to put up a few scores on Ohio State over the past 3 weeks.  Virginia
is bad and favored so they will score too.  I'll be surprised if this isn't
close to the total at half.

Ohio / Akron OVER 51.....Another game where defense should be
completely optional.

Now, lets get to the NHL.....

First, I've had questions about how the units are calculated....I just don't have
the time today to go into the explanation in full..I'll come back to that at
another date.

NHL 2009 - 2010 ( +8.1 Units)

Line 1: 15-15-15-15-35
Line 2: 15-15-15-15-40

On the game 2 line risk approx 90 to win 55 on Minnesota +1.5 -170
On the game 1 line risk 115 to win 50 on LA Kings +1.5 -230

Platinum Sports Invesing Blog - Friday

A very solid day for us yesterday nearly going a perfect
5-0 but only the Minnesota Wild could make the Kings
look good :)

First off I want to thank those of you who have emailed
me about this blog and I'm glad you all like it.  Second
a few of you wanted to make a donation and I very much
appreciate that as well.   I've added a little "donations"
box on the right for those of you who are interested and
have inquired.   Again, Thank you.

Today we have a day off so enjoy it and we'll be back
in action tomorrow with some NCAA football
thoughts and more NHL

NHL 2009 - 2010 ( +8.1 Units)

Platinum Sports Investing Blog - Thursday

Go ahead and laugh at me if you will.  I accept all laughter
for taking the Twins.  I didn't know they had their batting
practice staff actually pitching in the game. (Nice Job Liriano
You HACK!)

I'm over it.

Today is a HUGE day in NHL with HUGE lays and no
safety net.  We just have to gut it out and have a great day..

NHL 2009 - 2010 ( +5.3 Units)

Line 1: 15-15-15-15
Line 2: 15-15-15-15

On game 1 line risk 65 to win 30 on Atlanta +1.5 -215
On game 1 line risk 75 to win 30 on Minnesota +1.5 -250
On game 1 line risk 80 to win 30 on New Jersey +1.5 275
On game 1 line risk 68 to win 30 on Pittsburgh +1.5 -220
On game 1 line risk  ?? to win 30 on Colorado +1.5

Plan B**  If your bankroll can not support the above, the only
other recommendation I would have is to play the teams straight
up without the +1.5.  We do have some good teams today that will
probably win but as we saw the other night...the +1.5
is huge in NHL.  That's why we keep our bets small in
proportion to our bankroll because we have a large
volume of plays with this system.
